New York, NY Feb X, 2011 -- When South by Southwest (SXSW) brings fashion to its music and arts festival for the first time at this year’s event, wearable technology will be in the spotlight. A new exhibit, curated by Fashioning Tech's Syuzi Pakhchytan, called FashionWare, (http://fashionwareshow.com), combines sophisticated, sensuous design with the latest in wearable and high tech fabrics.
The exhibit introduces new designers, working with sensors, electronic components and "smart" fabrics to create everything from climate- and motion- aware outfits to lifesaving designs including a bandeau belt that transforms into a personal flotation device.
This inaugural fashion event helps SXSW ring in the 25th anniversary of its music conference and festival by examining the long-standing relationship between music and style. The exhibition, called Style X (pronounced “style by”), features up-and-coming designers. The event takes place on Friday, March 18 and Saturday, March 19 at the Austin Convention Center.
“Fashion is the next digital frontier,” says Robin Raskin the founder of Living in Digital Times.
“I’ve invited some of the most creative voices in the fashion who today are reimagining the we way we will dress in the years to come. “ says Syuzi Pakhchyan, fashion blogger and creator of Fashioning Tech (http://fashioningtech.com).
On display will be a 3D version of FashionWare the show, as well as narratives explaining how the designers work with luminescence, smart materials, sensors, and more to create "smart" clothes that are programmable, dynamic and responsive.
